Meet my Rodents

Postby cynicman on Thu Jul 29, 2010 7:12 pm

Use this thread to post pictures and short bios about your beloved pets. I'll start!

The first boy is Brutus. He is the father of most of the family. He is my alpha male and has the most loving character. His original mate is no longer with me. I had to down size my colony and the other breeder needed females that had good breeding history. Tough decision, but it had to be made. Anyway, he is an Agouti with a tad bit of Hoody and he weighs 330g.

Next up is Oliver. He was the first Siamese that I managed to breed. He got his name from the book Oliver Twist, cos when ever I fed them, he used to climb to the top of his cage as if to ask for more. He's so cute. He weighs 330g just like his father.

Next up is Tevye. He was born with a patch on his head that looked like a Yulmake, so I named him after the main character in the musical Fiddler on the Roof. He is also a Siamese and weighs 240g.

And then my last Siamese male is Cartman. He only got named later in life, as I couldn't think of a name for him, and I believe names should have meaning. He's always squeaking, almost like he is swearing you. His high pitched vulgarities reminded me of Eric from South Park. And he weighs 220g.

Named after Madiba, my first Black is called Nelson. He weighs 300g and is very loving.

Honey is my wife's favourite. He is a freak of nature, as he is the only Golden that I have ever known of in the Rattus Norviegus family. And I have spoken with many breeders who all say my photos are shopped. What do you think of this 215g beaut?

Abe is 270g of pure Agouti, which is very hard to breed in domestic rats. He looks just like a wild rat. Since I lost smokey, who was also pure Agouti, I am now looking for a pure Agouti female to take her place. Gonna be a tough find as this colour variety is very sort after.

Now Nancy was adopted as a mate for Oliver. At the time, I had no other Siamese, and another breeder has produced this 245g girl. I wanted someone to mate with Oliver when he was ready, and this is the girl. If you read Oliver Twist you'll know why she got her name.

Snow comes from a litter that I took in from a frantic pet owner who adopted a male and female from the pet-store, and was amazed when suddenly she had more than two rats running around. This 185g Saimese / White is still very young.

Crème is a Siamese Hoody. She is very sick, having only just started eating again after fighting a serious bought of pneumonia. Currently she weighs 150g and is skin and bones. She should be more than 200g.

And last but not least, Nelson's mate to be, Graça. She is a Black and weighs 190g.

Now you have met the family, what do you think. Post pictures of your babies in this thread!
